‘Alien: Earth’ Renewed For Season 2 As Noah Hawley Signs New Overall Deal With FX & Disney Entertainment Television

What we long suspected and even hinted at in recent weeks is now finally official: “Alien: Earth” is getting a second season renewal with creator, showrunner, director, and executive producer Noah Hawley inking a new overall deal with FX Networks and Disney Entertainment Television, as he’ll continue his relationship there making more television for years to come.

Given the show’s massive popularity, despite some criticisms, it was obvious that Hawley would get the chance to keep telling more stories (the show set two years before the events of the original 1979 film helmed by Ridley Scott) within the “Alien” universe after he talked up his ambition to have a multi-season plan for the streaming series, which has been expanding upon the franchise lore and allowing him the creative space to add his own stamp on the franchise.

“I’m thrilled that this expanded deal opens the door to new opportunities across all of Disney Entertainment Television. FX has always supported bold, character-driven storytelling. From the very beginning with ‘Fargo,” they’ve encouraged me to take creative risks and follow the story wherever it leads. I’m grateful to continue exploring the world of Alien: Earth alongside our partners, cast, and crew as we begin the next chapter,” Hawley said in an official statement provided by The Hollywood Reporter.

With this new overall deal, there is a chance that Hawley will not only get to make more seasons of “Alien: Earth” but could also be involved in future spinoffs (we could easily envision him producing/godfathering a second “Alien” show), and nothing would stop him from developing NEW shows as well down the road.

On the film front, an untitled “Alien: Romulus” follow-up starring Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson is expected to move forward into production once a new director is selected after Fede Álvarez (who exited the sequel after being attached to return for a hot second) co-wrote the sequel’s script with creative partner Rodo Sayagues (the pair decided to stay on to write the film to prevent the studio from killing off their lead characters).

Audiences won’t have to wait too long, as production on the second season of “Alien: Earth” is said to kick off next year in London, England, after the bulk of shooting on season one took place in Thailand. FX/Disney even released a minor teaser video on social media for the Season 2 announcement, which can be viewed right here.
