We’ve seen Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos consistently working together since the pair linked up for the Oscar-winning British royal court satire “The Favourite,” leading to three subsequent reunions with “Poor Things,” “Kind of Kindness,” and their most recent collaboration on “Bugonia.” Their consistent pairing hasn’t gone unnoticed, as actress Dakota Johnson over the weekend tried to pitch herself in the hopes that the filmmaker might pause working with Stone for a moment to give others like herself a shot.
Johnson just happened to moderate a “Bugonia” Q&A on Friday (via The Hollywood Reporter) with Lanthimos, Stone, and Jesse Plemens in attendance, where the actress attempted to shoot her shot, even if she was half-joking.

“Are you aware that there are other actresses, that are really talented, maybe even very close by?” Johnson joked, as Stone responded with, “What! No, right?” while looking at the filmmaker. Stone turned back to Johnson and said, “No, go for it, do your pitch, work on your pitch.” Johnson would go on to allude to already attempting a professional link-up with the filmmaker, “I already did and it didn’t work, remember? You were there,” as Stone laughed.
What is next for Lanthimos hasn’t exactly been officially announced. Although reports from earlier in the year suggested his “Bugonia” follow-up may be an adaptation of the French crime novel “Fatale” by author Jean-Patrick Manchette, a satirical detective story ripe for a feature iteration by the director.
A logline for that original novel from Amazon to give us an idea of what that project could look like: “Aimée is a beautiful young widow, she’s also a killer. Driven by a deep-rooted desire for revenge, she sets about uncovering the secrets of the inhabitants of the sleepy rural town of Bleville, before ruthlessly murdering them. Faced with corruption of a kind she had scarcely imagined, she discovers a deeply moral core under her murderous instincts.”
That said, were hopeful the two will eventually work together in the near future. Johnson, however, is tad busy with her directorial debut on the horizon “A Tree Is Blue” and is set to play an android in the sci-fi flick “Trudy Blue” from director Angus MacLane (“Lightyear”).
