‘Mercy’ Trailer: Chris Pratt & Rebecca Ferguson Topline Timur Bekmambetov’s Near-Future AI Crime Action Pic Coming January 23

It’s been a hot minute we’ve seen Kazakh-Russian filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted,” “Ben-Hur”) make a big Hollywood film, but with a cast that features Chris Pratt, Rebecca Ferguson, Kali Reis, Annabelle Wallis, Chris Sullivan, Kylie Rogers, and Kenneth Choi, he’s back with the AI crime actioner “Mercy,” arriving on screens next month.

The newly dropped trailer for the near-future movie set in 2029 features Pratt as an LAPD cop who has 90 minutes to prove his innocence, which feels like it takes a bit of a page from movies like “Minority Report” (with a dash of “Source Code“) placing Ferguson’s AI judge in the place of the precogs (predictors of violent crimes like murder) as his fate is being left up to his ability to use this technology.

An official logline for “Mercy” courtesy of Amazon MGM Studios:

In the near future, a detective (Chris Pratt) stands on trial accused of murdering his wife. He has 90 minutes to prove his innocence to the advanced A.I. Judge (Rebecca Ferguson) he once championed, before it determines his fate.

Bekmambetov directs “Mercy” from a script penned by Marco van Belle with a producing team that consists of Charles Roven, Robert Amidon, Bekmambetov, and Majd Nassif alongside exec producers Mark Moran and Todd Williams.
