After delivering A24‘s emotionally-driven wrestling drama “The Iron Claw,” director Sean Durkin is reuniting with the studio for “Deep Cuts.” That project has now landed on-the-rise actress Odessa A’zion (“Hellraiser”), who will be joining previously attached cast members Cailee Spaeny (“Civil War,” “Alien: Romulus”) and Drew Starkey (“Queer,” “Outer Banks”).
That casting update comes to us from The Wrap, as A’zion was recently seen in the Oscar-nominated Josh Safdie-directed “Marty Supreme” co-starring with Timothée Chalamet and has a main part in the new HBO Max series “I Love LA” alongside Rachel Sennott.

If you’re unaware, “Deep Cuts” is an adaptation of the acclaimed Holly Brickley novel of the same name that sees a love story take place in California during the early 2000s.
An official logline of the Brickley book via publisher Penguin Random House:
A love story about two people pulled apart by the same force that draws them together: music. It’s a Friday night in a campus bar in Berkeley, fall of 2000, and Percy Marks is pontificating about music again. Hall and Oates is on the jukebox, and Percy—who has no talent for music, just lots of opinions about it—can’t stop herself from overanalyzing the song, indulging what she knows to be her most annoying habit. But something is different tonight. The guy beside her at the bar, fellow student Joe Morrow, is a songwriter. And he could listen to Percy talk all night.
“Deep Cuts” isn’t it for the busy Durkin, as the filmmaker is also returning to television after working on Prime Video‘s “Dead Ringers” remake with the FX series “Seven Sisters,” going from pilot to a full season order, which has an impressive cast featuring Elizabeth Olsen, Cristin Milioti, and others.
