Working Title is officially developing a new series take on the beloved Charlotte Brontë novel “Jane Eyre,” with “Succession” writer Miriam Battye set to write the adaptation, with an unnamed U.K. broadcaster said to be circling the project as well.
Not only that, as the report from Variety revealed, British actress Aimee Lou Wood has landed the part of Jane, the female protagonist at the heart of the period drama. This comes after Emerald Fennell‘s “Wuthering Heights” has become a hit for Warner Bros., which was adapted from the work of Charlotte’s sister Emily Brontë, and could explain a renewed interest in the Brontë Sisters.

Wood is coming off breakout roles in Netflix‘s “Sex Education” and Mike White‘s “The White Lotus.” She recently took a big leap into the cinematic space with Oscar-winner Angelina Jolie in the holiday hostage flick “Anxious People” alongside a supporting part in Sam Mendes‘ epic four-film “Beatles” biopic, and will also appear in “The Idiots.”
There have been multiple iterations made in the past based on the source material, as the more notable modern version came from Focus Features and director Cary Joji Fukunaga that starred Michael Fassbender and a young Mia Wasikowska.
The next big step for the “Jane Eyre” series is finding an actor to play the brooding Edward Rochester opposite Wood’s Jane.
