‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’: Daniel Dae Kim Hasn’t “Heard Anything” About Playing Villain Mister Negative In MCU Sequel

Actor Daniel Dae Kim has a new Prime Video series on the way with the graphic novel adaptation “Butterfly,” but is addressing online fan-casting that he would be playing the MCU iteration of comic book bad guy Mister Negative (unconfirmed rumors are suggesting he’s showing up) in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

Mister Negative appeared in the recent PlayStation video games as an antagonist and has been a long favorite of Spidey fans to make his entry into the MCU franchise, but as Kim points out to ScreenRant recently, he won’t be playing him when asked about his thoughts on the villain rumor and fan-casting.

“I heard something about that over the past six or seven months, and I saw that,” Kim told ScreenRant when asked about playing Mister Negative. “I’ve seen that people want other Asian actors to play him as well, so I’m happy to be included in that conversation, but I haven’t heard anything…”It’s interesting. I’m always up for an interesting role and an interesting project.”

What we do know is that the movie directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (“Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings”) will feature Michael Mando‘s baddie Scorpion finally making his return after being briefly seen in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” before getting his super-suit, as Jon Bernthal is reprising the Frank Castle role, and Mark Ruffalo is playing Bruce Banner/Hulk as well. Newcomers to the superhero project include Sadie Sink (“Stranger Things”) and Liza Colón-Zayas (“The Bear”).

Funny enough, Kim does have a connection to the web-slinger on the big screen as he had a minor supporting role in Sam Raimi‘s “Spider-Man 2” as Raymond, an assistant to Alfred Molina‘s Doctor Otto Octavius.

Kim’s other credits include “Lost,” Netflix‘s live-action series reboot of “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “Hawaii Five-0,” the David Harbour reboot of “Hellboy,” and his upcoming show “Butterfly,” which debuts next week on Prime Video.

With production underway on “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” we likely won’t have to wait too much longer to learn about the rest of the cast and who the villain will be.
