Cameras are now officially rolling in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on Andrew Haigh’s follow-up to his acclaimed drama “All of Us Strangers” with “A Long Winter,” which has a batch of stellar actors among the cast of the new film that is set at MUBI and Film4 (also behind “All of Us Strangers”).
We’ve learned that the impressive lineup of “A Long Winter” (an adaptation of the Colm Tóibín short story of the same name) and it’s a dozy, as it features Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“The Bear,” “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”) and Caitriona Balfe (“Belfast,” “Ford v Ferrari,” “Outlander”), who were just announced as taking key roles. It also stars Fred Hechinger (“Gladiator II”), Kit Connor (“Warfare,” “Elden Ring”), D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (“Warfare,” “Reservation Dogs”), Manuel Garcia Rulfo (“Jurassic World: Rebirth”), and David Furr (“The Gilded Age”).

MUBI retains rights in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Benelux, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, and India, while The Match Factory is tackling worldwide sales. The brief tagline for “A Long Winter” shared with us for the pic:
Set high in the mountains, fall comes to an end, and a family prepares for the long winter ahead.
Balfe’s other recent efforts include the Rami Malek C.I.A. thriller “The Amateur,” the Orlando Bloom-led boxing flick “The Cut,” Working Title’s new iteration of “Sense & Sensibility” from buzzy director Georgia Oakley (“Blue Jean”), and the Irish actress has also joined the cast of the peroid mountain climbing drama “Tenzing” that would see her starring alongside Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe.
With the equally in-demand Moss-Bachrach, he’s part of the massive superhero roster of The Russo Brothers’ MCU event film “Avengers: Doomsday” (may also show up in “Avengers: Secret Wars” and is expected to return as Ben Grimm for yet-to-be-announced “Fantastic Four” sequels) and stars in Ira Sachs’ NYC-set musical “The Man I Love.”
“A Long Winter” is undoubtedly one project we’ll be keeping a close eye on, as Haigh is a highly talented filmmaker and has assembled a great mix of seasoned and on-the-rise actors for this new drama.
