‘Fantastic Four’ Actress Vanessa Kirby Wants A Crack At Villain Version Of Sue Storm: “I’m Dying To Do Malice”

Marvel‘s The Fantastic Four: First Steps had a successful opening weekend, earning an estimated $218 million at the global box office, and actress Vanessa Kirby is already musing about the future of her MCU role of Sue Storm evolving, potentially taking a villainous turn.

While speaking with Variety, Kirby voiced her desire to tackle Malice, the villain version of Sue Storm, saying she is “dying to do Malice” and how the character threatens to give characters an aneurysm using her power set, making her a deadly adversary when she’s not holding back.

“I’m sorry, I’m such a Sue nerd. There was something so allegorical about her. She was called Invisible Girl. Then Psycho-Man comes and disrupts everything, and she has a meeting with her own dark side in Malice. She comes back, and she renames herself Invisible Woman. So she transforms from a girl to a woman. There’s something about meeting the hardest parts of yourself in Malice that felt extremely poignant to me. I’m really hopeful I might be allowed to be Malice at some point for her,” Kirby told Variety about her reasoning for wanting to explore Malice in the MCU.

If you’re not aware, Malice is the dark side villain persona of Storm, brought to the surface by longtime “Fantastic Four” baddie Psycho-Man and the Infinity Stones. Although when and where Marvel would want to consider that iteration of Storm remains to be seen. However, the problem could be that this might be a little too similar to what we’ve seen with Jean Grey in The Dark Phoenix Saga (tackled or mangled twice in the Foxverse “X-Men” films) and Wanda’s most recent villain turn in “Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness.”

While Malice might be a big swing, given that Sue Storm is traditionally known as a heroine. That said, in the comic books, Reed Richards has a romantic rival for the affection of Sue with Namor the Submariner (played by Tenoch Huerta), who was introduced as the villain of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and will appear next alongside the “Fantastic Four” cast in “Avengers: Doomsday.” Perhaps, pairing those two in the future might be a way to tackle a version of Malice.

What comes after “Avengers: Secret Wars,” other than Jake Schreier’s “X-Men” reboot, is a bit of a question mark, but we have to assume that “Fantastic Four 2” is going to be on the docket for Marvel.
