Jason Segel Tapped To Star Opposite Angelina Jolie & Aimee Lou Woods In Holiday Hostage Flick ‘Anxious People’

Cameras are officially rolling in London on the holiday hostage pic “Anxious People,” as comedic actor and Emmy-nominee Jason Segel of “Shrinking” has been enlisted to star alongside Angelina Jolie and Aime Lou Wood.

The major casting update on the pic helmed by German filmmaker Marc Forster (“Quantum of Solace,” “World War Z”) comes to us from Deadline, as the movie is an adaptation of the Fredrik Backman novel with a script from two-time Oscar-nominated screenwriter David Magee, known for “Life of Pi” and “Finding Neverland.”

Given that the report doesn’t mention Segel’s character, we have to assume he’s part of the group of strangers taken hostage by Wood’s Grace.

A logline for “Anxious People” as mentioned by the outlet:

On the day before Christmas Eve, investment banker Zara (Jolie) begrudgingly finds herself mingling with a group of strangers at an open house. When a reluctant bank robber, Grace (Wood), inadvertently takes the group hostage, chaos and oversharing ensue, secrets are revealed, and literally nothing goes according to plan.

Segel, part of the Judd Apatow crew of talent, likely first got on people’s radar after supporting roles in comedies such as “Knocked Up” before pivoting to leading man in his own films like “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” “Five-Year Engagement,” and “The Muppets.” He’ll be seen next in Jorma Taccone‘s (“MacGruber,” “Popstar: Never Stop Stoppping”) action thriller “Over Your Dead Body” co-starring with Samara Weaving (“Ready or Not 2”) and Timothy Olyphant (Alien: Earth), as it hails from producers Kelly McCormick and David Leitch via their banner 87North Productions.

“Anxious People” is produced by Fredrik Wikström Nicastro of Hope Studios and Renée Wolfe of 2DUX2, with Forster, Magee, and Neda Backman set as executive producers. World Wide Word and Black Bear are the film’s financial backers, with the latter handling the international sales and WME Independent overseeing it domestically.

We’re assuming that more actors will be announced for other supporting roles, as we assume more hostages will need to be cast.
