After an online campaign to save a live-action/animation hybrid film, “Coyote vs. Acme,” when Warner Bros. Discovery‘s David Zaslav aimed to kill it for a tax write-off, Ketchup Entertainment has officially stepped in to buy the new “Looney Tunes” movie starring Will Forte and John Cena.
Ketchup recently released “The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie,” and according to Deadline, has picked up “Coyote vs. Acme” globally from WBD and is said to have cost them in the “$50 million range.” The distributor issued a press release officially announcing their acquisition of the film after reports that they were in the mix to save it.
This formerly shelved pic, heading back to theaters, centers on Wile E. Coyote as he takes legal action against the Acme Corporation for the countless faulty products that have hindered his relentless pursuit of the Road Runner. This case at the centre of the story “pits Wile E. and his lawyer (Forte) against the latter’s intimidating former boss (Cena), but a growing friendship between man and cartoon stokes their determination to win.”
“We’re thrilled to have made a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures to bring this film to audiences worldwide. ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ is a perfect blend of nostalgia and modern storytelling, capturing the essence of the beloved ‘Looney Tunes’ characters while introducing them to a new generation. We believe it will resonate with both longtime fans and newcomers alike,” Gareth West, CEO of Ketchup Entertainment, said in a statement.
“Coyote vs. Acme” comes from director David Green and is written by “May December” screenwriter Samy Burch, with producers Chris deFaria and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn also behind it.
Next up will be when Ketchup decides to release in the film theatrically globally; those dates have yet to be announced.
