Venice Film Festival: First Looks From Kathryn Bigelow’s ‘A House Of Dynamite,’ ‘Father, Mother, Sister, Brother,’ & ‘Wizard Of The Kremlin’

We recently learned the lineup of films that are going to be at this year’s Venice Film Festival, and with that, we have some first-look images to share for some of those upcoming high-profile festival titles, such as Jim Jarmusch‘s “Father, Mother, Sister, Brother,” Kathryn Bigelow‘s “A House of Dynamite,” and Olivier Assayas‘ “The Wizard of The Kremlin.”

“A House of Dynamite” is the first feature effort from Oscar-winning director since the 2017 pic “Detroit,” as the upcoming Netflix miltiary thriller boasts an impressive cast featuring Idris Elba (“Hijack”), Greta Lee (“Past Lives”), Gabriel Basso (“The Night Agent,” “The Big C”), Moses Ingram (“Obi-Wan Kenobi”), Anthony Ramos (“Ironheart”), and Rebecca Ferguson (“Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” “Dune” movies). The pic is heading to the streaming service on October 24 and sees the United States scrambling in real-time to discover who has launched missiles at the country.

Assayas’ latest movie “The Wizard of The Kremlin” stars Paul Dano (“The Batman,” “There Will Be Blood”), Jude Law (“The Order”), Alicia Vikander (“The Green Knight,” “Rumours”), Tom Sturridge (“The Sandman”), and Jeffrey Wright (“American Fiction,” “Highest 2 Lowest”) as the acclaimed French filmmaker adapts the Giuliano da Empoli novel that explores the fictional character Vadim Baranov (Dano) as the Soviet Union’s rule is winding down and the turbulent start of the Russian Federation, as a young Vladimir Putin (Law) becomes a powerful political figure in this post-Cold War era as relations with the West are softening.

Lastly, we’re being gifted with a new Jarmusch comedic family drama with “Father, Mother, Sister, Brother” that has a cast which consists of the filmmaker’s longtime pal/muse Tom Waits (“Dracula,” “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”) along with Adam Driver (“A Marriage Story”), Mayim Bialik (“Call Me Kat”), Charlotte Rampling (“Dune” movies), Cate Blanchett (“Black Bag”), Vicky Krieps (“Phantom Thread”), Sarah Greene (“Sexy Beast” series), Indya Moore (“Ponyboi”), and Luka Sabbat (“The Dead Don’t Die”).

A logline from MUBI:

A feature film in the form of a triptych. The three stories all concern the relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parent (or parents), and each other.
