‘The Savant’: Jessica Chastain Says Apple TV Will Release Domestic Terrorism Series After Postponement Due To Charlie Kirk Murder

There had been some concerns after Apple TV postponed their new series “The Savant” starring Jessica Chastain, as they were hoping to avoid negative media coverage in the wake of the murder of right-wing podcaster Charlie Kirk. Well, it looks like the show will indeed see the light of day, after some had believed the streamer might end up shelving the project altogether following the September announcement to pull the show back.

While speaking with Variety over the weekend, Chastain revealed that Apple TV will indeed be releasing the show, and they’re under the impression that it could be coming sometime in July. However, that summer date has not yet been confirmed by the streaming service.

“Before it was like, ‘I don’t know if we’re going to see it,’ but now I can say, ‘We’re going to see it,’” Chastain told the outlet on Saturday at The Breakthrough Prize ceremony in Santa Monica.

The project explores online hate groups and domestic terrorism (in reality, mostly tends to fall in the lap of right-wingers, conspiracy theorists, anti-abortion groups, and white nationalist circles), which may have been seen as way too volatile or triggering to be released around the murder of Kirk at a political debate event on a college campus last September. Chastain, in the show, “plays a top-secret undercover investigator known as the Savant, who infiltrates online hate groups to take down the most violent extremists in the United States.”

Melissa James Gibson is the creator/showrunner of “The Savant,” inspired by Andrea Stanley’s book “Is It Possible To Stop A Mass Shooting Before It Happens?” Chastain both stars and exec-produces the Apple TV project. Others among the cast of “The Savant” include Nnamdi Asomugha, Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley, Toussaint Francois Battiste, and guest star Pablo Schreiber.

Given folks who had been patiently waiting for an update, this should surely be more positive-sounding than what we heard months ago. While that July date sounds promising, we’ll have to hear it directly from Apple before getting too excited.
