Guy Nettiv‘s next scripted feature length film is heading to theaters in early 2027, on January 8, after the movie is getting an awards season qualifying run (stay tunded for news on that front). The main kicker is that it will be inspired by the Oscar-winning director’s grandmother’s experience with an insidious cult and set during the 1980s. As we’re seeing a bit of streak of peroid thrillers tackling the decade, something we’re all for.
Another tanatlizing angle is that group of actors enlisted for key roles include Carrie Coon (“Gone Girl,” “The White Lotus”), Lily James (“Baby Driver,” “The Iron Claw”), Odessa Young (“The Order,” “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere”) , Tracy Letts (“The Big Short”), and Bella Ramsey (“The Last of Us,” “Game of Thrones”).

Bleecker Street, the film’s distrubtor provided the following logline for the untitled film:
Rita (Coon), a woman in midlife haunted by the weight of her past, encounters magnetic young spiritual leader Ricki (James) and leaves her family to follow her to an all-female commune. But when her daughters Ella (Ramsey) and Jo (Young) arrive unexpectedly and become drawn into the group’s seductive world, Rita is forced to choose between the family she left behind and the life she believes can save her.
The new film from Navtti, has a producing team that consists of Julia Lebedev and Eddie Vaisman at Sight Unseen, Jaime Ray Newman and Nattiv for New Native Pictures, Oren Moverman, and Steven Schneider and Roy Lee for their banner Spooky Pictures. Lee is best known for being the modern go-to genre producer with recent projects under his belt such as “Resident Evil,” “Hokum,” “Weapons,” “The Long Walk,” “Strange Darling,” “Companion,” “Skeletons,” “Anything But Ghosts,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” reboot, A24‘s new horror series “Crystal Lake,” and the newly announced “Siren Head.”
Navtti had previously worked with Bleecker on the political dramatic biopic “Golda” that starred Helen Mirren as the controversial Israeli leader and another recent co-directed feature effort was the wildy acclaimed sports drama “Tatami,” which features an Iranian female judoka Leila competing at the World Judo Championships, intent on bringing home Iran’s first gold medal for the Korean-born martial art.
We’ll keep our fingers crossed that film (seemingly has been using the working title of “Harmonia“) ends up making a festival debut, which is very likely, given Guy Nattiv previously winning the 2019 Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film for his short “Skin” at Searchlight Pictures (the win shared with Jaime Ray Newman).
