'The Mandalorian' Season 3 Enlists 'Back To The Future' Star Christopher Lloyd

Rarely do we see actors that have appeared in both “Star Trek” and “Star Wars” franchises, but given that Lucasfilm is developing multiple live-action shows and films at the same time, there is going to be franchise crossover at some point. The third season of the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” is currently shooting in southern California at the central production hub, and a new casting addition sees an old ‘Trek’ actor from the original wave of films join the “Star Wars” universe.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that veteran character actor Christopher Lloyd, who played the villainous Klingon Commander Kruge in “Star Trek III: The Search For Spock,” and of course, Dr. Emmett Brown in the beloved “Back To The Future” trilogy, is joining “The Mandalorian” in a mystery role. A veteran who has appeared in iconic roles for over five decades, Lloyd also starred in “Clue” and played Judge Doom in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” and Uncle Fester in the live-action “The Addams Family” movies.

The seasoned actor has played both friend and foe during his lengthy career, so it’s unclear if he’ll attempt to help or hinder Mando’s latest mission. Lloyd was most recently seen wielding a shotgun alongside Bob Odenkirk and The RZA in the heart-pumping action flick “Nobody.”

We last saw Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin in possession of the legendary Darksaber and reunited with Grogu after spending a brief amount of time training with a CGI construct of Luke Skywalker. There is an expectation that Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan and other Mandalorian characters will have a role to play in the third season as the Darksaber has left Imperial hands.

Lucasfilm has yet to announce when “The Mandalorian” will return to Disney+, but Star Wars Celebration is right around the corner at the end of May, and it seems likely that a lot of “Star Wars” announcements will hit that weekend. Lucasfilm also recently announced that highly anticipated, the Ewan McGregor-starring “Obi-Wan Kenobi” will debut May 25 as the next big live-action “Star Wars” event for fans to get hyped about.
