Zack Snyder Explains Why The "We Live In A Society" Line In The 'Justice League' Trailer Isn't In The Movie

Today is the day, “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” is now out on HBO Max. But fans might be surprised to see that one of the most talked-about parts of the recent trailer won’t appear in the 4-hour cut of the film.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Zack Snyder explained how the line “we live in a society” uttered by Jared Leto’s Joker to Ben Affleck’s Batman ended up in the trailer, but not in the actual movie. As well as talking about all the extra stuff he wanted to add to his version of “Justice League” but wasn’t able to.

Joker’s new scene takes place in the post-apocalypse future previously seen in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and the director reveals that it was Jared’s idea to use the infamous internet Joker meme which was used for a new trailer that dropped back on Valentine’s Day.

“We went back and forth a bit, and I’ll give Jared credit for that little ad-lib there because it was really, really beautiful,” Zack Snyder said.

Of course, as mentioned, the scene never did make it to the final cut. And neither did a proposed idea that would have seen Ryan Reynolds suit up one more time as Green Lantern, after the solo film of the same name bombed at the box office in 2011 (which you can read about here).

Regardless of Ryan Reynolds not appearing in the movie and Jared Leto’s “We live in a society…” line not being spoken in the final cut, there’s still hours of new footage for Zack Snyder fans to fawn over when they watch the new “Justice League,” which is available now on HBO Max.
