TV creative Noah Hawley is a very busy fella these days with Season 2 of “Alien: Earth” getting into good shape with new actors joining the new season of the sci-fi horror prequel show, another project at FX is gearing up, “Far Cry.” This one is a video adaptation of the popular Ubisoft first-person shooter franchise that Hawley is developing alongside Rob Mac of “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” and “Mythic Quest” fame.
Mac is set to co-star (he tends to act in his projects) with Lizzy Caplan in the anthology series (expected to be different each season, like the games themselves, which have different protagonists in each installment) as veteran actor Steve Buscemi has officially taken an undisclosed part in the project.

Busemi is best known for roles in “Reservoir Dogs,” “The Sopranos,” “Fargo” (Hawley turning that film into it’s own show), “The Big Lebowski,” he led the Martin Scorsese-produced HBO gangster show “Boardwalk Empire,” and has a supporting role in the C.I.A. dark comedy “Wilde Horse Nine” from writer/director Martin McDonagh.
While most of the “Far Cry” games had an open-world concept, the really out-there adventure, the DLC installment “Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon,” was a self-contained mission with a satirical ’80s-inspired cyberpunk take that had actor Michael Biehn (“The Terminator,” “Aliens”) lending his likeness/voice in the role of Sergeant Rex “Power” Colt. That might be a tad expensive to execute, but it would certainly mix things up in later seasons, as the anthology model would allow them to pull from previous stories or simply make up their own original ones.
“Better Call Saul” and “Breaking Bad” actors Michael Mando and Giancarlo Esposito played heavies in the games, so it’ll be interesting to see if they end up called up to play different parts in the show, although it’s hardly a forgone conclusion that they’ll appear in this iteration of the franchise.
As you might already be assuming, Mac (More Better Productions) and Hawley lead the “Far Cry” executive producing team in addition to Simon Emanuel, Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nicholas Frenkel for 3 Arts, Monica Macer, Peter Calloway, John Campisi, and Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television. The anticipated video game series will also be produced by FX Productions.
