Kevin Feige Comments On Ryan Gosling’s Desire To Play ‘Ghost Rider’

Whenever actors are on tour for their latest studio tentpole, questions tend to point towards the superhero genre and specifically what comic book roles actors might consider their dream choice. Most recently, Ryan Gosling – who hasn’t really stepped into the superhero genre outside of his early role as “Young Hercules” – has given the impression he’s ready to jump in as “Ghost Rider.”

While speaking with MTV News to promote “The Gray Man,” Gosling squashed an online rumor about him being in the mix to play the titular cosmic hero in an announced “Nova” project. He then surprisingly revealed he’d much rather play Johnny Blaze, aka the man behind the skull in Marvel’s “Ghost Rider’ series. MTV News’ Josh Horowitz, who previously got the statement from Gosling, spoke directly with Marvel’s Kevin Feige after their San Diego Comic-Con presentation on Saturday and brought up the Canadian actor’s desire to join the MCU.

“Ryan is amazing,” Feige said when asked about Gosling. “I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU. He dressed up as Ken on Venice Beach and gets more press than a giant movie that’s coming out that weekend. It’s amazing.”

The “Ghost Rider” role had been previously inhabited by Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage in two feature films, but – due to the poor reception of those films – never quite stuck with the public. A second incarnation of the supernatural character, Robbie Reyes, was played by “Terminator: Dark Fate” actor Gabriel Luna in the ABC series “Agents of SHIELD.” Plans for a solo series starring Luna at Hulu were halted after Feige paused Marvel Television projects in development to focus on Disney+ shows instead and rebranded the division as Marvel TV Studios

Despite the occasional rumor from time to time, there haven’t been any official plans announced by Marvel Studios concerning a new “Ghost Rider” film or series. However, a project like “Midnight Suns” or something that gets the horror, occult, and supernatural characters all together could be an excuse for the blazing skulled hero to dust off his chains and motorcycle for one more ride.
