‘Raised By Wolves’ Exec Producer Says They Were “Ready To Do” Season 3 Of Ridley Scott Sci-Fi Series, But Was Axed After Merger

When it was announced that the Ridley Scott-produced sci-fi off-world series “Raised By Wolves” wouldn’t be getting a third season, many of us were shocked because the acclaimed show seemed to have been popular enough to warrant more seasons, but that didn’t ultimately happen, and we now have a better idea of what went wrong, as it apparently was sacrificed after the Warner Bros. merger with Discovery.

The show’s executive producer, David W. Zucker (“Alien: Earth,” “Blade Runner 2099”) of Scott Free Productions, shared the details with ScreenRant as they were “ready to do” the next batch of episodes, but as soon as David Zazlav stepped in, the show was sadly shelved in the wake of that (other films and shows in development at WB/HBO didn’t surivive the transition either, so it wasn’t just “Raised By Wolves” that got impacted here).

Zucker revealed to the outlet that the studio was “ready to do” the next season of episodes, only for the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery to see “David Zaslav [come] in” and see their “our third season [getting] set aside” by HBO Max. Despite that sudden cancellation of the show, Zucker expressed hope of resurrecting it down the line. “I personally wish that we would be able to bring ‘Raised by Wolves’ back,” adding that he “never thought we would make an ‘Alien‘ or ‘Blade Runner‘ series” and that “I keep hoping that [show] might have another day.”

Amanda Collin, Abubakar Salim,Travis Fimmel, and Niamh Algar played the main adult characters, with Winta McGrath playing the show’s main protagonist, Campion (a young human being raised off-world by artificial parents, with one being more violent than the other). In the show, there are conflicting religious human factions as they’re fighting against deadly artificial intelligence threats, and the show ultimately felt like Scott trying to execute ideas about outer space colonization by robots that could have been used for “Alien: Awakening” (his third “Alien” prequel featuring Michael Fassbender‘s David experimenting with human colonists).

Sadly, we’ll never know where “Raised By Wolves” was heading, but Zucker seems optimistic they could end up returning to the world in the future. Then again, Ridley Scott isn’t slowing down on the sci-fi genre as his next feature film, “The Dog Stars” (starring Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, and more), coming to theaters next month, explores the post-apocalyptic genre and is producing Takashi Yamazaki‘s (“Godzilla Minus One”) original sci-fi film “Nue” at 20th Century Studios.

As alluded to by the EP, Scott Free is also behind “Alien: Earth” (Season 2 is gearing up as casting is underway) and Prime‘s upcoming cyberpunk spinoff series “Blade Runner 2099” (starring Michelle Yeoh, Hunter Schaffer, and Tom Burke), we’re dying to get some first-look footage from the latter.
