'A Simple Favor' Sequel Set At Lionsgate & Amazon

Director Paul Feig‘s critically acclaimed “A Simple Favor” made a big splash back in 2018 as the satirical thriller made an impressive $97.6 million on a budget of $20 million.

And now, who would have thunk, it’s getting another installment with a sequel officially on the horizon. Deadline reports that a second movie is now set at Lionsgate and Amazon with screenwriter Jessica Sharzer (“American Horror Story“) back writing the screenplay and Feig at the helm.

They’ve also announced that stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively are reprising their lead roles.

“A Simple Favor” also featured actors Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Linda Cardellini, Jean Smart, and Rupert Friend in supporting roles. However, it’s unclear if any of the other actors will be returning alongside the two main leads.

Feig most recently directed the highly-anticipated Netflix adaptation of “The School For Good & Evil” that stars a bevy of popular actresses such as Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, and Michelle Yeoh.

Here is the official synopsis of “A Simple Favor” if you’re unfamiliar with it:

Stephanie is a widowed, single mother who works as a vlogger in Connecticut. Her best friend, Emily, seems to have it all — a successful career, a loving family, and a glamorous lifestyle. When Emily mysteriously disappears one day, Stephanie launches her own investigation by digging into her friend’s past — and finding a few surprises along the way.

Lively is also busy making her feature directorial debut at Searchlight Pictures with “Seconds” a sci-fi graphic novel adaptation that boasts a script from British filmmaker Edgar Wright (“Last Night In Solo,” “Baby Driver“) and the source material hails from “Scott Pilgrim” creator Bryan Lee O’Malley.
