Could Henry Cavill Join 'Mission: Impossible 8' & Play Captain Britain?

British actor Henry Cavill has been in high demand after seemingly ending his relationship with the Superman role (though he’s open to returning). Cavill’s currently shooting the Apple TV+ spy film “Argylle” with Matthew Vaughn directing and is already eyeing a return for the third season of the mature fantasy series “The Witcher” ahead of the second season’s premiere on Netflix.

In an in-depth profile of the actor from The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill revealed he would be hypothetically interested in playing Marvel Studios‘ British superhero Brian Braddock, aka Captain Britain.

“I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain, and that would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that — like the way they modernized Captain America. There’s something fun about that, and I do love being British,” Cavill said when asked about what Marvel character he’d like to play.

In the comics, Captain Britain leads the British superhero team Excalibur and the brother of Betsy Braddock, one of the “X-Men” characters, Psylocke. Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter briefly mentioned Braddock in “Avengers: Endgame,” but we never saw the character appear in those scenes taking place in the 1970s. Cavill’s clearly keen about the role, and now, well, it’s up to Marvel if they are listening and or have plans for the character.

Additionally, while Cavill’s villainous “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” character August Walker seemingly died at the end of the film, writer/director Christopher McQuarrie has revealed that he might consider bringing him back for “Mission: Impossible 8.”

“I’m in the process of rewriting [‘Mission: Impossible 8’] right now, this afternoon, I could turn a page, and any actor from the past could come back. There is no such thing as death in movies, only unavailability,” McQuarrie told THR.

The extensive profile also mentions that his “grounded-in-reality” reboot of “Highlander” at Lionsgate is getting ready to shoot next year and will be helmed by “John Wick” franchise director Chad Stahelski, who just wrapped on “John Wick: Chapter 4” in Paris.

Henry Cavill will be a busy lad for the foreseeable future if “Argylle” and “Highlander” turn into new film franchises for him. Fans of the MCU and DC are probably hoping and praying he’ll either play a unique role or return to an iconic superhero role, respectively.
