Paramount Delays ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ & ‘Jackass Forever’ To New Dates In 2022

We’ll have to wait even longer to get our Tom Cruise fix from Paramount Pictures. The studio has further delayed the releases of both “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Mission: Impossible 7” along with “Jackass Forever.” This comes after multiple hiccups for the “Top Gun” sequel, with the release playing musical chairs for almost two years.

In the report from Deadline, ‘Maverick’ moves from November 19 to Memorial Day weekend on May 27, 2022. Many people have been waiting since the summer of 2020 to see Cruise fly in the skies again but will have to be extra patient for that to come together finally.

That May spot happens to have been originally meant for “Mission: Impossible 7” and means the studio has bumped that action flick to September 30.

“Jackass Forever” has been bumped from October 22 (would have debuted against “Dune“) to February 4.

Paramount’s next big release after pulling everything else out of 2021 is their new “Scream” installment on January 14, which will feature original cast members such as Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette.

Variety adds that Sony Pictures has slightly pushed back “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” from November 11 to November 19, not a huge delay compared to the ones from Paramount.

We’ll have to wait and see if this is just the latest round of fall/winter releases jumping ship or if others will stick around. Other big movies still slated for release in 2021 still include “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” “Dune,” “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Eternals,” and even “The Matrix: Resurrections.”

It’s certainly interesting to see Paramount moving their projects out of 2021 after just promoting them at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where they could have updated exhibitors on these changes a tad earlier.
