If you’re not aware, Amazon is looking to acquire MGM Studios for a massive $8.45 billion and means that future films could be heading directly to their streaming service Prime Video. This will likely lead to more commercially viable projects that will be cooked up at the studio, and a new MGM pic sounds like it meets that criteria.

A live-action feature film based on a beloved Mattel toy line is in the works, as Variety reports that actress Lily Collins will portray “Polly Pocket” in a movie that is going to be written and directed by Lena Dunham (“Girls,” Sharp Stick“) for MGM Studios. The Mattel toys are famous for being extremely small compact micro-doll playsets, and the film will focus on a young girl developing a friendship with a pocket-sized woman (Collins).
The actress posted to Twitter about the newly announced project. “As a child who was obsessed with Polly Pockets,” she wrote. “It’s a real dream come true to announce this project! I am partnering with the most inspiring team to reintroduce Polly to the world in a fun, modern way. Truly so excited to be coming on as both a producer and Polly herself!”
Movies based on Mattel’s toys aren’t a new concept by any stretch of the imagination as Warner Bros. is attempting to execute a high-profile “Barbie” (another Mattel property) movie starring two-time Oscar-nominee Margot Robbie (“I, Tonya,” “Bombshell“) from director Greta Gerwig as she co-wrote the script with Noah Baumbach. The production switched studios after Amy Schumer and Anne Hathway exited the previous Sony Pictures incarnations.
Collins is coming off a solid couple of years taking the female lead in David Fincher‘s Oscar-winning Hollywood biopic “Mank” and led the popular Netflix series “Emily In Paris.” And in case you’re wondering, no, Lily Collins isn’t in David Fincher‘s next feature film, “The Killer” (we checked). While Fincher was scouting in Paris for his next feature, Collins was in the city for the second season of “Emily In Paris,” and the director stopped by to say hello to his “Mank” actress. The two were spotted together, and a photo was making the rounds on Twitter (See below).
