Kevin Feige Feels Like “Gigantic Loser & Failure” Over ‘Blade’ Reboot Delays, Still “Excited” To Have Brought Back Wesley Snipes

I think it’s hard not to feel fandom’s impatience with Marvel Studios concerning their “Blade” reboot, as they had announced two-time Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali (“Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother”) all the way back in 2019, and we’re still waiting for some concrete update in 2026 about the official status of that action-horror project after talking that Marvel may pivot to a “Midnight Sons” movie to lump together a bunch of horror characters (we assume Oscar Isaac‘s Moon Knight, Gael García Bernal‘s Werewolf By Night, Laura Donnelly‘s monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone, Man-Thing, Ghost Rider, and possibly Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Doctor Strange) instead of just a solo romp.

While we wait to hear official word on what is going on there, studio head Kevin Feige has briefly talked to Josh Horowitz about his disappointment getting “Blade” in front of cameras after director switch-ups (both Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange departing at different points in development), and various script rewrites. That said, he’s been happy to bring back original actor Wesley Snipes to the role for a minor appearance in “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

“I am feeling very excited that we got Wesley Snipes back for a time in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine,’ and like a gigantic loser and failure that we didn’t get off the ground with Mahershala,” Feige said of their attempts to get Blade back in theaters.

Some believe that the “Blade” reboot is dead at the studio, but radio silence doesn’t always mean something has been completely abandoned or scrapped. We recently saw an update on “Nova“: Michael Waldron (“Loki”) is set to pen a feature film after the movie was pulled from the streaming slate on Disney+, which may have been assumed based on the VFX costs involved in the off-world setting and cosmic characters.

Before launching the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “Iron Man,” Feige was involved with a bulk of the other Marvel films at other studios and has an executive producer credit on the David S. Goyer-directed “Blade Trinity.” So he wasn’t a complete outsider to the “Blade” franchise before it fizzled out with that third and final installment.
