Spooky season has finally kicked off as we’re squarely in October, the month of Halloween has become associated with the horror genre beyond trick-or-treating, and with that, studios are gearing up with their scary offerings, such as Scott Derrickson‘s “Black Phone 2” heading to screens soon.
The follow-up to the 2021 release sees the return of Mason Thames‘ (“How To Train Your Dragon”) Finn alongside Ethan Hawke‘s (“The Lowdown”) masked kidnapping villain from the original film, The Grabber. We’ll also see actors Madeleine McGraw (“M3GAN”), Demián Bichir (“Alien: Covenant”), Miguel Mora, Jeremy Davies (“Saving Pirate Ryan”), Arianna Rivas (“A Working Man”), Maev Beaty (“Beau is Afraid”), and Graham Abbey (“Under the Banner of Heaven”) set for roles in “Black Phone 2.”
It was written again by Derrickson and his longtime creative partner, C. Robert Cargill, and the horror franchise is based on characters created by author Joe Hill. Jason Blum of Blumhouse, Derrickson, and Cargill produce alongside a group of executive producers that consists of Ryan Turek, Adam Hendricks, Daniel Bekerman, and Jason Blumenfeld.
An official logline for the horror sequel courtesy of Universal Pictures:
As Finn, now 17, struggles with life after his captivity, the headstrong 15-year-old Gwen begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone and seeing disturbing visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake. Determined to solve the mystery and end the torment for both her and her brother, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a winter storm. There, she uncovers a shattering intersection between The Grabber and her own family’s history. Together, she and Finn must confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death and more significant to them than either could imagine.
