‘Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes’ IMAX Trailer: Apes & Humans Are Still At Odds In The Future On May 10

With 20th Century Studios’Kingdom of The Planet of The Apes” just over a month away, IMAX has released an exclusive brand new “special look” trailer for the upcoming sci-fi epic. In the latest trailer, we see humans nearly reverting to their prehistoric roots, harkening back to the original film from 1968, minus the team of time-traveling astronauts.

Under Disney, 20th Century Studios hasn’t been releasing a vast amount of titles. Still, they are going all-in on the studio’s franchises with more Avatar” sequels on the horizon alongside new Alien and Predator movies on the way as well. The next big release from the studio is the next incarnation of their “Planet of The Apes” movies titled “Kingdom of The Planet of The Apes” as they usher audiences much further into the future than the previous installments.

An official logline for “Kingdom” via 20th Century Studios reads as follows:

Set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign. Apes are the dominant species living harmoniously with one another, and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape will undertake a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

The new cast assembled by director Wes Ball (20th Century’s “Maze Runner” movies) includes Freya Allan, William H. Macy, Dichen Lachman, Kevin Durand, Owen Teague, Peter Macon, and Travis Jeffery. Very few are names, but one suspects 20th Century wants to put the budget into the visuals since most of the actors aren’t seen as themselves regardless.

Depending on the audience’s reaction to moving on from Andy Serkis’ Caesar, there could be more in store, as Ball reportedly has a new trilogy idea in the works. They just need this first new iteration to be a box office hit, and with the budget reportedly much lower than the Matt Reeves’ films, that could easily be the case.

“Kingdom of The Planet of The Apes” releases on May 10, with early IMAX previews beginning on May 8.
