‘Little Fears’: Michel Gondry To Direct Horror Film Starring Gilles Lellouche & Bastien Bouillon

We’re still upset that director Michel Gondry and Pharrell Williams‘ musical film “Golden” likely won’t see the light of day after the project was scrapped by Universal Pictures earlier in the year. But we now know what is next for Gondry as he’s prepping a mysterious horror movie called “Little Fears” that will star French actors Gilles Lellouche and Bastien Bouillon.

French outlet Premiere Magazine mentioned some of the details about “Little Fears” (aka “Les Petites peurs“) as the film starts out with two little girls finding a skull, Gondry revealed at Annecy Animation Festival 2025, stopping himself before dishing more spoiler details.

“I’m finishing the script, the casting has begun. It will be a French production, and it is, at its core, a horror film. It starts like this: two little girls find a skull in their garden. Not bad, as a starting point [Laughs],” Gondry said as the film is gearing up to begin shooting next January until March 2026 in Occitania (a region in Southern Europe that connects France, Spain, and Italy).

Veteran actor Lellouche will play the police officer in charge of the murder investigation, and Bouillon is set to play the father of the two girls who find the aforementioned skull.

Producer Geroge Berman also has quite the elevator pitch for “Little Fears” comparing it to a mix between the Charles Laughton-directed 1955 thriller “The Night of The Hunter” and taking some visual inspiration from Gondry’s lovely 1990s music video for Björk‘s haunting pop song “Human Behavior” that employed a mix of stop-motion animation and forced prespective trickery (like other music videos he’s made in the past).

Gondry isn’t exactly known for the horror genre, having tackled quirky comedies such as “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “Be Kind Rewind,” and teamed up with Seth Rogen for “The Green Hornet” reboot.

So, with that in mind, we’re quite excited to see how “Little Fears” comes together, given the filmmaker’s extremely inventive storytelling techniques through breathtaking visuals with a flair for applying heart and humanity to his characters.
