‘Clayface’: Max Minghella In The Mix To Join DC Comics Body Horror Tale

Clayface” is the next big DC Comics movie going into production, as the body horror genre project penned by Mike Flanagan (“Doctor Sleep”) has another actor circling a supporting role alongside Tom Rhys Harries (“The Gentlemen”) and Naomi Ackie (“Mickey 17”) in the pic directed by James Watkins (“Speak No Evil”).

Deadline is backing up a Nexus Point News casting report from earlier in the month that actor Max Minghella is “in talks” with DC Studios and Warner Bros. for a part in “Clayface.”

From the world of Batman and Gotham City, Clayface is one of the Dark Knight’s lesser-known villains from the iconic rogues gallery and became super popular after “Batman: The Animated Series” from the 1990s (not unlike Harley Quinn), as the struggling actor character craves fame and his big shot, in that desperation he uses a cosmetic product to change his appearance to be more appealing that turns him into a horrific shapeshifting monstrous figure (think “The Substance” in the DC Comics universe).

Cameras are expected to roll on the stages at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in Watford, England, which likely means we’ll see more British actors joining the call sheet. This is the same production facility that was used for previous DC projects like “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” and the new “Harry Potter” series from HBO.

Minghella isn’t a stranger to the world of horror, having a co-starring role opposite Chris Rock in “Spiral,” a soft-reboot of the “Saw” franchise. He’s also had a main role in the hit Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and appeared in David Fincher’s Facebook dramedy “The Social Network.”

“Clayface” is heading to theaters on September 11, 2026, and joins “Supergirl” as next year’s lineup of DC Studios‘ projects.
