Daniel Day-Lewis Cross “Gone Full Method” Has Become A Pejorative “Meant To Imply That A Person’s Behaving Like A Lunatic In An Extreme Fashion”

We were ecstatic when living legend Daniel Day-Lewis came out of a self-imposed “acting retirement” to work with his son, director and co-writer Ronan Day-Lewis, for their acclaimed new film “Anemone,” as the highly-respected actor is sharing his frustration about the current era of using “gone full method” as pejorative (likey due to antics from actors like Jermey Strong and Jared Leto) within the industry connected to bad/rude behavior is getting under his skin.

“I don’t really like thinking of acting in terms of craft at all. Of course, there are techniques you can learn, and I know that the Method has become an easy target these days,” Day-Lewis shared in a new interview with The New York Times. “I’m a little cross these days to hear all kinds of people gobbling off and saying things like ‘gone full Method,’ which I think is meant to imply that a person’s behaving like a lunatic in an extreme fashion.”

“Everyone tends to focus on the less important details of the work, and those details always seem to involve some sort of self-flagellation or an experience that imposes upon oneself a severe discomfort or mental instability,” continued Day-Lewis. “But of course, in the life of an actor, it has to principally be about the internal work.”

Daniel Day-Lewis is certainly known for staying in character for most of his roles, he’s been the face of method acting for a majority of his career, but we’ve seen some actors misusing the approach to acting as an excuse to act like jerks and mistreat cast/crew, something that the Oscar-winner isn’t exactly known for (as far as we can remember, the more notable stories from the sets had more to do with interactions with Day-Lewis not breaking character and in-depth preperations, not behaving in an unhinged manner toward anyone).
