Recently, it was revealed that “Star Wars” actress Daisy Ridley (“We Bury The Dead”) would be dabbling in the sports drama genre playing a real-life British NHS nurse turned MMA fighter in “Killa Bee,” and is going to be making another film that will demand a certain level of physicality from her with the new action-thriller ‘The Good Samaritan,’ which has established French action filmmaker Pierre Morel (“Canary Black,” “Freelance”) attached to helm from a script penned by Matthew Ian Cirulnick (“Rambo: Last Blood”). .
Deadline, who reported on the original project currently being sold at the American Film Market, also shared an official logline for “The Good Samaritan”:
“When successful entrepreneur Dr. Rosalind Carver (Ridley) and her husband Matt rescue a wounded man drifting off the coast of Indonesia, they believe they’re saving a life, not stepping into a deadly conspiracy. Within hours, their yacht vanishes, Matt is abducted, and paradise turns into a trap. Hunted by pirates and imprisoned by corrupt officials, Rosalind’s only hope lies in Sean Fuller, a private military contractor whose motives are as mysterious as his past. Together, they must navigate a maze of deceit and violence in a land where no one can be trusted.”

Morel is likely best known to American audiences for the Liam Neeson kidnap action flick “Taken,” alongside other projects like “District B13,” “From Paris With Love,” “Peppermint,” and “The Gunman.” He was once also set to direct Paramount Pictures’ version of the “Dune” reboot long before Denis Villeneuve ever got involved with it for Legendary.
Highland Film Group is behind the film’s international sales at AFM, with CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group working together to represent domestic rights. Assembled for the film’s producing team includes Mark Canton (“Den of Thieves”) and Dorothy Canton (“Arthur The King”) of Canton Entertainment, Oakhurst Pictures (“Canary Black”), Renee Tab (“Sound of Freedom”) of Sentient Entertainment, and David Hopwood (“Den of Thieves”). As the group of executive producers consists of Morel, Cirulnick, Ryan Winterstern, alongside Delphine Perrier and Arianne Fraser from Highland, with Canton’s Karley Ferlic set as a co-producer as well.
Cameras are expected to roll on “The Good Samaritan” in Brisbane and the Gold Coast area in Australia this spring.
Of course, we’re all still waiting for concrete production update on Ridley’s next entry in the “Star Wars” universe with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s “New Jedi Order,” but it remains to be seen if the high-profile follow-up to “The Rise of Skywalker” is going to be getting in front of cameras anytime soon, Since the film’s announcement both Jon Favreau’s “The Mandalorian & Grogu” and Shawn Levy’s “Star Wars: Starfighter” have previously jumped the line ahead of “New Jedi Order.”
