After spending a bunch of her time recently making big tentpole films for Disney with the upcoming releases of James Cameron‘s “Avatar: Fire & Ash” and the next “Star Wars” theatrical installment “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” veteran actress Sigourney Weaver is looking to do a role on the small screen and is reportedly circling a part in Prime Video‘s live-action series reboot of the “Tomb Raider” franchise led by “Game of Thrones” actress Sophie Turner (the second reboot attempt, if anyone is counting).
This would-be casting news (Weaver hasn’t signed on, just yet) hails from Deadline, as Weaver would be the first major supporting cast member to join the Prime series that is being written and executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“No Time To Die,” “Fleabag”) alongside co-showrunner Chad Hodge.

Turner steps into the role of beloved video game protagonist and treasure hunter, Lara Croft, who had been previously played by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
The video game focuses on the extremely wealthy Croft as she globatrottes in a modern setting to find various sought-after archaeological items (some with supernatural abilities). Notably, “Tomb Raider” is inspired by “Indiana Jones” (Waller-Bridge having appeared in James Mangold‘s “The Dial of Destiny“) and weilds her signature dual pistols.
Director Jonathan Van Tulleken, who recently worked on “Shogun,” “Dope Thief,” and the upcoming Prime spinoff series “Blade Runner 2099” (we can’t wait for some teaser footage), is also involved with the new action-adventure show. Given Weaver’s history with genre roles, she certainly would fit into this latest “Tomb Raider” reset.
