'Ahsoka': Mary Elizabeth Winstead Joins 'Star Wars' Series On Disney+

Ever since the dismal theatrical performance of “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” Lucasfilm has pivoted from feature films to the small screen, allowing them to flesh out the “Star Wars” universe by developing multiple shows for Disney+. One of the new series on the horizon is “Ahsoka,” which may end up focusing on the former Jedi’s mission to find Grand Admiral Thrawn, as revealed in her first live-action appearance on “The Mandalorian.”

Casting is heating up, with another major addition being announced. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Mary Elizabeth Winstead has landed an unnamed role opposite Rosario Dawson, Hayden Christensen, Ivanna Sakhno, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo. The latter plays the live-action version of Mandalorian hero Sabine Wren from “Star Wars: Rebels.”

Dave Filoni— who helped bring Ahsoka Tano to life in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” and co-created the character with George Lucas— is writing the show and will executive produce alongside Jon Favreau. There is an assumption Filoni will direct episodes as well.

Winstead is no stranger to action projects with credits such as “Kate,” “Birds of Prey,” “Gemini Man,” “10 Cloverfield Lane,” and “Live Free or Die Hard.” It’s probably worth mentioning that the actress is romantically involved with Ewan McGregor, the actor leading his own series with “Obi-Wan Kenobi, debuting later this year. The pair co-starred on the “Fargo” series from FX.

Filming on “Ahsoka” said to begin this spring in California, which has been the main production space for other shows such as “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett,” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” We’ll have to wait a little longer for Disney+ to reveal an air date for the series, as big announcements are expected to be made by Lucasfilm at the Star Wars Celebration event in May.
