Writer/director Jay Duplass returns with his new movie “The Baltimorons,” as we’ve learned it is heading to theaters in September, as IFC Films has sent us a new trailer for the romantic comedy that is set during a Christmas Eve in Baltimore, Maryland.
The new pic opens September 5 in New York City before further expansion on September 12. Duplass co-wrote the movie’s script with Michael Strassner, the film’s lead, as “The Balitmorons” co-stars Liz Larsen and Olivia Luccardi.
The film’s official logline, courtesy of IFC:
On Christmas Eve, Cliff, a newly sober improv comedian, cracks a tooth and lands in the emergency care of Didi, an older, no-nonsense dentist. What begins as a routine check-up sparks an unpredictable evening of misadventures. Together, Cliff and Didi fight to overcome being shut out by their families, face their biggest fears, and discover their own surprising and tender connection.
Our very own Rodrigo Perez reviewed and praised the film, saying it was, “A super winning charmer… [with] some ‘Harold & Maude‘ and the general naturally sublime bittersweet shagginess of Hal Ashby films.” That full review from Austin’s SXSW 2025 can be read right here.
Duplass, who is also an actor, was most recently seen as a supporting cast member in the FX dark comedy series “Dying For Sex” opposite Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Rob Delaney, and Sissy Spacek. “The Baltimorons” is the filmmaker’s first feature effort behind the camera since 2012’s “The Do-Deca-Pentathlon,” and we’re still waiting on when his next project, “See You When I See You,” will be released.
