‘Legend Of Zelda’ Live-Action Movie From Wes Ball Casts Zelda & Link, Plus First Look Images

This morning, rights holder Nintendo Japan has officially announced the two main actors to play both Link and Princess Zelda in Wes Ball‘s live-action “Legend of Zelda” movie at Sony Pictures.

Some lesser-known talent have been selected for the two lead roles in the fantasy video game adaptation, as English actress Bo Bragason (“Renegade Nell”) will play the titular Princess Zelda, and Canadian actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Disney’s live-action “Pinocchio,” “Son of A Critch”) will inhabit the part of our heroic adventurer Link.

Also, Nintendo added what looks to be first look images that were attached to the social media post, showing the two actors in costume (could be either from the set or simply costume tests).

We don’t have a concrete plot logline for the new video game blockbuster penned by Derek Connolly (“Kong: Skull Island,” “Metal Gear Solid,” “Jurassic World”) and T.S. Nowlin (“Maze Runner” movies, “Pacific Rim: Uprising”). But we have to assume that Link and Zelda will come face-to-face with longtime franchise antagonist Ganon.

The most recent video games released on the Nintendo Switch console, “Breath of the Wild” and “Tears of the Kingdom,” were massively popular open-world games allowing players to explore the fantastic world of Hyrule (think of a PG version of “Lord of the Rings” mixed with Hayao Miyazaki‘s “Princess Mononoke“). “Zelda” originally debuted back in 1986 and has become one of the biggest video game franchises of all time, considered a jewel among the main Nintendo lineup of titles.

Ball is coming off success with “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” and the “Maze Runner” films, he nearly dipped his toes into the fantasy genre before with a feature film adaptation of the comic book “Mouse Guard” before the VFX-heavy project was scrapped during the merger between Disney and 21st Century Fox (parent company of 20th Century Fox).
