Funny man Tim Heidecker (“Y2K”) and Tatiana Maslany (“Black Mirror”) have been tasked to topline a new dark comedy called “The Comedy Hour,” which is expected to take place within the world of late-night but with a satirical dystopian twist.
Deadline revealed the bonkers-sounding project that is coming from director Colby Day (his feature film directorial debut), who previously penned the Adam Sandler sci-fi pic “Spaceman” and the upcoming Searchlight Pictures release “In The Blink of An Eye” that was once among the 2016 run of Black List scripts. The former has Andrew Staton (“WALL-E,” “John Carter”) directing with a cast featuring Kate McKinnon, Rashida Jones, Daveed Diggs, and more.

The outlet provided the following synopsis for “The Comedy Hour”:
Set five minutes into the future when modern America is on the brink of collapse. Heidecker will play Jimmy, a late-night talk show host forced to produce his show through famine, fire, and plague. When the network assigns him a robot to be his co-host and help boost ratings, everyone in America loves the robot more than him. Maslany will play Priya, a corporate climber and Jimmy’s long-time producer.
Of course, Heidecker is best known from the comedy duo of “Tim & Eric,” alongside hosting his ongoing YouTube podcast “Office Hours,” where he posted a hilarious parody of “The Joe Rogan Podcast” and Bill Maher‘s “Club Random.” He would link up with fellow comedian turned genre director/producer Jordan Peele, taking parts in “Us” and the sports horror flick “HIM,” which Peele produced.
However, the Emmy-winning Canadian actress might not be automatically thought of as a comedian herself, but played the meta-superhero Jennifer Walters in “She-Hulk” that certainly had a lot of funny moments (including the fourth-wall breaking ending), has spent a good amount of time over the years making friends in established comedy circles (trolled Marvel fans and geek outlets spreading fake MCU news on the satirical podcast “Comedy Bang Bang“) and isn’t unfamiliar to being quick on her feet with witty quips.
UTA Independent Film Group is overseeing the worldwide sales for “The Comedy Hour” with Scythia Films (“The Apprentice”) President Daniel Bekerman producing alongside Halee Bernard and Julian Higgins (“God’s Country”).
