French-Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve‘s time with the world of Frank Herbert is coming to an end this December with “Dune: Part Three” (an adaptation of Herbert’s second novel “Dune Messiah“) set to conclude his epic sci-fi fantasy trilogy. While we’re thrilled that actress Rebecca Ferguson returns as Lady Jessica for the film, in a new interview, she is preparing audiences for her limited screentime.
Speaking with Josh Horowitz on his industry podcast “Happy Sad Confused,” the blunt Ferguson was quick to point out that she ended up getting “FOMO” from the shoot because she only ended up filming a “one scene” for the movie after believing she wouldn’t be part of the third movie at all. Her limited involvement was something we don’t think folks were originally expecting with the final installment, given her importance in the first two movies (the first two films based on the first novel and splitting that story into two releases).

“I just dipped my toe in. I have no sort of comments on it. The script is great. But my journey was No. 1 and 2. I don’t even think Jessica was supposed to be in [‘Dune: Part Three’]. And then Denis was like, ‘I need to have one scene,’ and I get one scene. There’s a lot of FOMO. And the acceptance of, ‘This is just what it is.’ You just have to serve,” Ferguson said of her experience on the latest installment.
Villeneuve has assembled quite the group of actors for “Dune: Part Three” with Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Javier Bardem, Ana Taylor-Joy, Robert Pattinson, Isaach De Bankolé, Charlotte Rampling, and the dramatic return of Jason Momoa (confirmed by trailer footage and his own poster) after the death of his skilled swordsman character, Duncan Idaho.
Feel free to watch/listen to that full exchange between Ferguson on “Happy Sad Confused” below, “Dune: Part Three” will be unleashed in theaters on December 18 and, for the moment, is going head-to-head against “Avengers: Doomsday.”
