‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ Season 2 Replaces Sophie Thatcher With Talia Ryder Starring Opposite ‘Anora’ Actor Mark Eydelshteyn

Earlier this year, we learned that the second season of Prime Video‘s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” would be getting a new showrunner with “Severance” and “Beef” writer Anna Ouyang, but there is even more of a shakeup on the project as filming is now underway in Los Angeles, and they’ve hired a new lead actress.

Variety has revealed in new reporting that British actress Sophie Thatcher (“Companion,” “Yellowjackets”) has been replaced with Talia Ryder (“West Side Story,” “Dumb Money”), who is being paired up with “Anora” actor Mark Eydelshteyn, tapped for the male lead in the spy streaming show.

You might remember that with Season 1, Phoebe Waller-Bridge was originally going to star opposite Donald Glover, only for her exit as well, and was replaced by Maya Erskine on that first run of episodes. So, casting shakeups on the show are nothing new for them.

Prime’s official logline for the show:

“Meet the Smiths: two lonely strangers, John and Jane, who have given up their lives and identities to be thrown together as partners, both in espionage and in marriage.”

Francesca Sloane and Glover had originally co-created the TV iteration of the Doug Liman-directed film that had paired Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as married professional killers, keeping their deadly activities secret from each other until they cross paths on the same assignment. The series bucked that element by establishing them as spies from the jump.

The first season ended up nominated for an impressive 16 Emmy awards (it ended up winning Outstanding Stunt Coordination For Drama Programming in 2024), so there are certainly high expectations for this follow-up, and we’ll have to wait to see who else will be appearing on “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”
