Anime is really starting to find a large audience domestically as “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” has kept the top spot at the domestic box office and has crossed $555 million mark globally, making it one of the highest-grossing anime films to ever come out of Japan.
“Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” (released by Sony Pictures) ended up outpacing the Jordan Peele-produced sports horror film “HIM,” as mentioned by THR; it ended up making a solid $17.3 million after amassing an impressive $70 million last weekend.
This comes after animated projects such as China’s “Ne Zha 2” and Sony Animation Pictures/Netflix’s “KPop Demon Hunters,” both also tackle demonic plotlines, having quite the impact on a global audience. The former earned a massive $1.9 billion, making it the top-grossing feature of 2025 without much of a chance for other movies to outgross it. We suspect that “Avatar: Fire & Water” may have a chance to end up toppling “Ne Zha 2,” but that’s not a possibility for a while.
For some context, “Mugen Train,” another “Demon Slayer” movie from 2020, ended up making $486.4 million, so this one, surpassing that number, is a huge win for everyone involved.
What this means for future “Demon Slayer” movies at the box office remains to be seen, but this certainly highlights a demand for more anime installments as it speaks to the taste of a younger global audience raised on anime and manga material. Perhaps, we’ll see more of a push to import other high-profile anime films to Western theaters.
There are expected to be two more “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” movies to be released in the future, capping off a trilogy. But fans of the anime will have to wait as they won’t be coming until 2027 and 2029, respectively.
