On the heels of the Toronto Blue Jays clinching a playoff spot over the weekend, another Canadian baseball team is getting a major spotlight in the form of a Netflix documentary titled “Who Killed The Montreal Expos?” which is heading to the service on October 21.
A trailer for the doc helmed by Jean-François Poisson has made its way online, which focuses on the team from its debut in 1969 to being disbanded in 2004, moving to Washington, D.C., and being renamed the Washington Nationals. While never as prolific as the Blue Jays (winning two World Series in the 1990s) in the zeitgeist of Major League Baseball, the team had a rabid following, and even today, 20 years after the big move, Canadians, mostly French-Canadians, still rock Expos merchandise proudly.
An official logline for the upcoming doc courtesy of Netflix:
Twenty years after Montreal lost its beloved Expos, fans still want answers. WHO KILLED THE MONTREAL EXPOS? takes a behind-the-scenes look at the controversial decisions, setbacks, and missteps that sealed the team’s fate.
Stéphanie Thibault leads the producing team with executive producers Richard Speer, Marie-Christine Pouliot, and Nick Trotta named as well.
The doc arrives on Netflix next month, and you can watch that trailer for “Who Killed The Montreal Expos?” below.
