'Silk' Series: Amazon Taps 'Watchmen' Producer To Showrun; Lauren Moon To Write The Korean-American 'Spider-Man' Spin-Off

Despite making new post-theatrical streaming deals with both Netflix and Disney+Sony Pictures is working alongside Amazon Prime Video to bring a live-action Marvel Comics series to the streaming giant featuring the Sony-owned Spider-Verse character “Silk,” who has the alter-ego of Cindy Moon. Like Peter Parker and Miles Morales, Cindy is a spider-based hero.

There has been a major development over at Amazon, as Deadline reports that Tom Spezialy, the producer of the HBO series “Watchmen” has signed on to an overall deal with them and will become the showrunner of “Silk.” In addition, Lauren Moon (“Good Trouble,” “Atypical“), who was in talks, has now reportedly signed too and will write/produce the superhero show that will focus on the Korean-American teen.

At one point, there were rumblings of a feature film in early development stages, but neither a director nor a screenwriter was ever officially attached to it. This is likely why Sony pivoted to television instead of a film, as they’re pretty much backlogged with projects as is.

Given that the project is at Amazon, it’s unlikely “Silk” will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; instead, it will help amplify Sony’s own universe of Spider-Verse characters.

The “Silk” update comes after recent news that Sony has chosen British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson for their “Kraven The Hunter” movie directed by J.C. Chandor. Along with multiple other projects in development, including films centered on other characters from the Spider-Man lineup such as Jackpot, Madame Web, Nightwatch, Black Cat, Silver Sable, and director Olivia Wilde’s rumored “Spider-Woman” film.
