Kevin Feige Talks Punisher In “Street-Level” ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ & Sony Blocking Live-Action Miles Morales: “We’ve Been Told To Stay Away”

Marvel StudiosKevin Feige recently covered a bunch of MCU topics, and some of those were “Spider-Man” franchise-related, as the studio executive, via The Hollywood Reporter, talked up the involvement of The Punisher in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and the potential of bringing in “Spider-Verse” hero Miles Morales to the MCU during a roundtable chat with various press outlets.

Feige confirmed that Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle will be appearing in Destin Daniel Cretton‘s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” admitting it’ll be a tonally different version of The Punisher that we may be familiar with from the mature iteration on the small screen.

“When Punisher is in the Spider-Man movie, it’ll be a different tonality,” said Feige of the big-screen crossover pic.

That roundtable chat also had Feige speaking up on that and teasing that “street-level” aspect in “Brand New Day,” as cited by Collider. These new quotes from Feige might pour cold water on some of the more ambitious (some ridiculous) rumors making the rounds online about the fourth installment.

“I think there’s a promise at the end of ‘No Way Home,’ that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories him being a proper Spider-Man. Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with, for lack of better terms, street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events…So when you do that, you say, okay, who are the other street-level characters that we’ve never seen him interact with? And of course, I love that The Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic. That great cover…I don’t want to say too much, but Destin, I will say too much, Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie, which starts shooting very soon. And he’s got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool.”

Sadly, for those hoping to see a live-action Miles Morales after various geek outlets and internet rumors suggesting (Tom Holland once talking up his desire to see Parker mentoring and passing the torch to Morales) that would be a thing, Feige gives the impression that it simply isn’t on the table for the moment, due to Sony Pictures.

“That is nowhere…Sony has their brilliant, genius, incredible Spider-Verse animated franchise going, and until that finishes, we’ve been told to stay away,” said Feige of the possibility of Miles joining the MCU anytime soon.

A disappointing update as they’re focusing on launching a new trilogy of films starting with “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is expected to begin shooting soon in the United Kingdom with an official release date set for July 31, 2026. We’re still waiting on word of the film’s villain, which certainly would cement the pic being a street-level romp or something much bigger.
