A new trailer for Bradley Cooper’s latest directorial effort, the dramedy “Is This Thing On?,” has landed, which stars Will Arnett, Laura Dern, Andra Day, Cooper, Amy Sedaris, Sean Hayes, Christine Ebersole, Ciarán Hinds, and Scott Icenogle.
Arnett plays Alex, a stand-up comedian in the New York City comedy scene, looking toward a recent divorce as he navigates this life-changing moment that’ll see him pushed into a new chapter as his world is now completely switched up.
The film’s synopsis, courtesy of Searchlight:
As their marriage quietly unravels, Alex (Will Arnett) faces middle age and an impending divorce, seeking new purpose in the New York comedy scene while Tess (Laura Dern) confronts the sacrifices she made for their family-forcing them to navigate co-parenting, identity, and whether love can take a new form.
“This movie is not a midlife crisis—it’s a midlife catharsis,” Cooper told Vanity Fair recently of the new movie. “Sometimes you realize you’re coasting and you’ve lost your rudder and your North Star in life, and that takes a toll on whoever is in your orbit.”I
It was also mentioned that they open on the day when Tess tells Alex she wants a divorce, rather than spending a lot of time exploring the events leading up to that moment.
“You don’t really know anything other than that they just decided to break up,” Cooper said of the divorce angle. “But there’s no cataclysmic thing.” Arnett added, “The effect that it has on his life is so huge because it allows him to talk in a way that he never talked before and to be open and vulnerable.”
“Is This Thing On?” is set to debut during the New York Film Festival in October and then heads to theaters on December 19. You can watch the aforementioned trailer below.
