Writer/director Ryan Coogler is said to be developing “Black Panther 3” with living-legend Denzel Washington (“Highest 2 Lowest”) leaking that news and his involvement a while back, but fans won’t have to wait too much longer to see more of that lore and exploration of the world, thanks to the spinoff series “Eyes of Wakanda” coming to Disney+ next month.
A new trailer for the animated anthology streaming series has dropped and features a brief tease of the inclusion of a mysterious Iron Fist in the show. Hinting that K’un-Lun and Wakanda have come into conflict with each other in the past.
An official synopsis for the series from Marvel:
Marvel Animation’s new action-adventure series ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ follows the adventures of brave Wakandan warriors throughout history. In this globe-trotting adventure, the heroes must carry out dangerous missions to retrieve Vibranium artifacts from the enemies of Wakanda. They are the Hatut Zaraze, and this is their story.
Voice actress Jona Xiao revealed on Instagram, she’ll play the “first female Iron Fist” in the animated series. Which makes us believe she is possibly referring to 1500s iteration Wu Ao-Shi, aka The Pirate Queen of Pinghai Bay, who was created for and introduced in the pages of “The Immortal Iron Fist” comic book run from 2006.
Just so folks aren’t losing their minds, there are MANY different versions of the character, thanks to that aforementioned comic book storyline that established there were multiple Fists over hundreds of years.
Others lending their voices to the Coogler-produced project directed by Todd Harris include Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, Zeke Alton, Steve Toussaint, and Anika Noni Rose.
This would be the first major use of Iron Fist since the Netflix series ended and could signal we’re going to see more of those from the mantle in the live-action side of things in the future. Will we see Finn Jones reprise the Danny Rand part, or could Marvel pivot to different characters who have also donned that mantle? Only time will tell.
You can watch that new trailer for “Eyes of Wakanda” below as the show debuts August 1.
