Dave Franco & Alison Brie Reunite For 'Somebody I Used To Know'

Following the success of his directorial debut “The Rental,” Amazon Studios announced today that director Dave Franco would be making an original drama, “Somebody I Used To Know,” with a script penned by Franco and his wife and creative collaborator Alison Brie.

Brie will also play the film’s lead, Ally, who starts questioning her workaholic life and the various choices she’s made over the years during a trip back to her hometown. The screenwriter/actress appeared in the Oscar-winning film “Promising Young Woman” and the popular Netflix comedy “Glow.”

Joining Alison Brie will be Jay Ellis (“Escape Room,” “Insecure,” “Top Gun: Maverick“), who will play Ally’s ex-boyfriend Sean and Kiersey Clemons (“Dope,” “Sweetheart,” “The Flash“) will play a character that only reinforces how much Ally has changed.

Dave Franco, the younger brother of James Franco, is best known for comedic acting work on projects like “Neighbors,” “21 Jump Street,” “The Little Hours,” and “The Disaster Artist.” His feature directorial debut was on the horror film “The Rental” that he co-wrote with Joe Swanberg and Mike Demski. It starred Dan Stevens and Alison Brie.

He’ll be seen in the upcoming vampire flick “Day Shift” starring Jamie Foxx (“Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Collateral“).

“The follows workaholic Ally (Brie) who, on a trip to her hometown, spends a night reminiscing with her ex-boyfriend Sean (Ellis), which makes her start to question everything about the choices she’s made and the person she’s become. And things only get more confusing when she meets Cassidy (Clemons), a younger woman who reminds her of the person she used to be.”
