Marion Cotillard, Jude Law & More Join Kate Winslet In WWII Drama

Oscar-winner Kate Winslet (“The Reader“) was previously attached to film project based on the life of Vogue cover model turned wartime photojournalist Lee Miller, who helped spotlight the Holocaust atrocities against Jews committed by the Nazis during WWIII that had been hidden away from the front lines in evil concentration camps from the rest of the world.

The WWII project from director Ellen Kuras (“The Betrayal“) and screenwriter Liz Hannah (“Mindhunter,” “The Post“) will be heading to the American Film Market (where multiple films are auctioned off to distributors/financiers), according to Deadline, with Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, Andrea Risborough, and Josh O’Connor are joining Winslet on the drama’s call-sheet. A prime cast that any filmmaker would be proud to have assembled.

“This is absolutely not a biopic. To make a story about Lee’s whole life, that’s a series worth for HBO. What we wanted to do was find the most interesting decade in her life, the one that defined who she was and what she became because of what she went through. It was the period from 1938-1948 that took her right through the war and her most defining time. That is the story we want people to know about Lee more than the many other parts of her life,” Winslet told Deadline about the important slice of Miller’s life they are covering.

The untitled film is said to touch upon the power of feminism, and the denialism about war atrocities that Miller fought to expose in her photojournalism work.

Cameras are expected to begin rolling around late summer or early fall in Eastern Europe and London with a fantastic awards caliber crew that consists of composer Alexandre Desplat, costume designer Michael O’Connor, cinematographer Pavel Edelman, and makeup/hair design head Ivana Primorac.

This one is already feels like a strong contender for awards before anything has been shot. Kate Winslet, of course, is coming off an Emmy win for her HBO drama “Mare of Easttown.” Rocket Science is executive producing and selling the drama internationally as CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group will tackle the domestic deal for the pic.
