Russo Brothers Say Cut 'Avengers: Endgame' Sequences Could Still Show Up One Day & Still Would "Love A Crack At Wolverine"

The Russo Brothers recently stopped by The Lights Camera Barstool podcast to promote their upcoming Tom Holland-starring crime flick “Cherry” due for an AppleTV+ release on February 26. And of course, that means questions about Marvel (that take up more of the interview than the actual subject on hand, but hey, who’s counting minutes?)

Asked to maybe pick or describe a moment or sequence that they wanted to include in “Avengers: Endgame,” but weren’t able to include it, the brothers played a little bit coy and didn’t want to get too specific. “It’s a hard question for us to answer because, the stuff that we love most and most passionate about,” Anthony Russo explained about the leftovers they didn’t get to use in ‘Endgame,’ “There’s’ still a chance it might show up one day. It’s hard to start talking publicly about it.”

That’s a big showstopper for Marvel fans and could mean one of two things, one they could return to Marvel one day — as they’ve suggested in the past — and use one of these moments, or, Marvel themselves could use one of those elements. Either way, it feels like one of those ? moments, no?

Later in the conversation, the Brothers were asked about who they would have most liked to include in ‘Endgame,’ and the conversation veered towards Wolverine, but also, the challenges of making that character now.

“Wolverine has always been such a special character for me,” Joe Russo said, explaining that his first appearance in Hulk #181 was one of the first comics he ever had. “To realize him on screen, it’s very hard because Hugh Jackman‘s performance is definitive. It’s like Batman; you have to really think of a way to, you have to really find the right actor to come in and give a really different take to that character. But I would really love to see him on screen.”

It’s worth noting that actor Mark Ruffalo has voiced his interest publicly for Hulk and Wolverine to interact in the future.

Russo had some unsolicited advice for Marvel too. “I think the best thing is to take a break, without question. You need a [palate cleanser], you need to rinse the towel a little bit, let everyone enjoy what was, and then come up with something new. But I’d love to take a crack at Wolverine at some point.”

The sibling duo has previously teased a desire to tackle Wolverine multiple times, and there could be a few ways to accomplish that, be it in an origin story, an event Avengers Vs. X-Men movie or something else (the Russo Brothers have talked-up making “Secret Wars” in the past). It could even be something to follow-up on Marvel’s Skrull-centric series “Secret Invasion” that will star Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, who knows.

However, they’re going to be a little busy for the foreseeable future as they are developing multiple feature film projects, including Netflix’s $200 million-plus spy action film, titled “The Gray Man,” that will star Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans (as a bad guy they said) among others.
