After “The Long Walk” co-stars David Jonsson and Cooper Hoffman earned praise for their on-screen chemistry in the Stephen King dystopian pic helmed by Francis Lawrence, the two on-the-rise actors are being eyed to reunite for a new A24 film, “The Chaperones.”
That promising talk of their reteam hails from Deadline, as the pic will be directed by India Donaldson (“Good One”) from a script penned by Sebastian Black, as “The Chaperones” has Plan B and Robert Pattinson‘s Icki Eneo Arlo partnering alongside A24 as part of the producing team, with Adam Wyatt Tate set as an executive producer.
The brief elevator pitch for “The Chaperones” sees a trio of slacker friends hired to transport (or say, chaperone?) a troubled teen after Christmas across the country; it’s unclear who is being looked at for those other two key roles, or who exactly out of the four actors will end up playing this “troubled teen” at the center or the reasoning behind the events.
Jonsson, last year, ended up getting on the radar of many for the British actor’s compelling performance as the child-like synth Andy in “Alien: Romulus” and is set to return for a direct sequel alongside Cailee Spaeny (“Civil War”), which is co-written by Fede Álvarez and Rodo Sayagues, as 20th Century Studios/Scott Free will now seek a new director (the screenwriting duo hinted at Demián Rugna earlier this month at a horror convention). Another project on the horizon for Jonsson is the directorial debut of musician Frank Ocean, which sees him co-starring with Canadian actress Taylor Russell.

Hoffman, of course, led Paul Thomas Anderson‘s period coming-of-age tale “Licorice Pizza” and was part of the ensemble cast of Jason Reitman‘s dramedy “Saturday Night.” Some of his other upcoming projects include Gregg Araki‘s “I Want Your Sex,” Maude Apatow‘s “Poetic License, and he is currently filming Luca Guadagnino‘s high-profile OpenAI biopic “Artificial,” where Hoffman plays Greg Brockman.
All that said, it sounds like Donaldson’s “The Chaperones” could be a great character-driven project for the two actors.
