‘The Choral’ Trailer: Ralph Fiennes Leads R-Rated Comedic Choir Drama Set During WWI That Debuts At TIFF

Ahead of the film’s debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, we can share a new trailer for the drama “The Choral,” which features a cast led by three-time Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes (“The Menu”) alongside a supporting cast that includes Roger Allam, Amara Okereke, Simon Russell Beale, and Thomas Howes.

Helmed by Nicholas Hytner, the director of “The Crucible” and “The Lady In The Van,” screenwriter Alan Bennett is behind the script for the R-rated comedic drama that sees Fiennes assembling a choir of local youngsters in Yorkshire, while World War I (The Great War) rages on in Europe contributing the mass death of many of young men.

Sony Pictures Classics also shared the following logline:

As war rages on the Western Front, the Choral Society in Ramsden has lost most of its men to the army. The Choral’s ambitious committee, determined to press ahead, decides to recruit local young males to swell their ranks. They must also engage a new chorus master, and despite their suspicions that he has something to hide, their best bet seems to be Dr. Henry Guthrie (Fiennes) – driven, uncompromising, and recently returned from a career in Germany. As conscription papers start to arrive, the whole community discovers that the best response to the chaos that is laying waste to their lives is to make music together.

Fiennes is coming off his Oscar nomination for the stellar Vadcant thriller “Conclave” directed by Edward Berger from earlier in the year, and got super ripped to play an older iteration of Odysseus in “The Return.” He’s set to reprise the role of Dr. Kelson from “28 Years Later” in Nia DaCosta‘s sequel “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” in January and is currently shooting “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” for Lionsgate as the dastardly President Snow.

However, we’re still waiting for Sony to reveal when we can expect a domestic release for the movie. Until then, you can watch Fiennes in the newly released trailer for “The Choral” below.
