After Joseph Kosinski and Brad Pitt‘s big racing action flick “F1” made a mint at the box office over the weekend, earning an impressive $152.3 million globally so far, there is now reporting from Variety that a sequel could be “potentially” already in the works.
The film’s screenwriter, Ehren Kruger, is currently hammering out a script for “Top Gun 3,” and we wouldn’t be shocked to see the writer asked to pen this “F1” sequel as well, although we’re just making early assumptions about what the creative team could look like.

We don’t know what that sequel could look like or the main gist of the plot. However, it might leave the door open for Tom Cruise to join the fun in the second installment after he was once poised to co-star with Pitt in “Go Like Hell,” and showed up to the premiere to support the “F1” team.
This update comes after mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer alluded to ongoing sequel development on a second “Days of Thunder” movie (they’ve been trying to come up ideas for years, mind you) during the “F1” red carpet premiere to ET and on The Rich Eisen Show, and Kosinski pitched a hypothetical crossover with Cruise’s Cole Trickle from “Days of Thunder” having history with Pitt’s Sonny Hayes.
For Kosinski, he’s a little busy for the foreseeable future with the aforementioned “Top Gun 3,” a new “Miami Vice” film with a script from Dan Gilroy (“Nightcrawler”), and is expected to make his untitled UFO movie at Apple Original Films next that also has Bruckheimer producing.
Pitt recently confirmed that he’ll begin shooting the David Fincher-directed follow-up to “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” this month, which sees the actor reprising his Cliff Booth role for the Netflix movie that boasts a script written by Quentin Tarantino.
Stay tuned for further updates as they come in for the “F1” sequel.

I always love the fun and adrenaline of a racing film. Today marks two racing milestones for my friend Jerry Bruckheimer, the release of F1 and the 35 year anniversary to the day of our collaboration with the great Tony Scott on Days of Thunder.
