‘Clayface’: Naomi Ackie Frontrunner For Key Role In DC Comics Body Horror Flick

Clayface” lead actor Tom Rhys Harries (“The Return”) is reportedly getting some company very soon as a potential lead actress has been named for the body horror flick featuring the DC Comics villain from the wave of Batman rogues.

This casting update comes to us from Deadline, who report that British actress Naomi Ackie is being courted and is the frontrunner to play the female lead in the new DC flick. Although the outlet is quick to point out that a formal deal with Warner Bros. and DC Studios hasn’t been signed, so she isn’t a complete lock, yet.

Speak No Evil” director James Watkins is at the helm of “Clayface” with a script penned by Mike Flanagan (“Doctor Sleep”) as production is prepping to take place in the United Kingdom, where “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” recently shot. The WB-owned Leavesden Studios, where the next DC movie will be filmed, is the main production space of the “Harry Potter” franchise and where multiple DC projects have been shot in the past.

The talented on-the-rise actress seems like an excellent fit for the project as Ackie’s credits include “Sorry, Baby,” “Mickey 17,” “Lady Macbeth,” “Blink Twice,” “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” and “The Thursday Murder Club.”

There is an expectation that this version of Clayface will be inspired by the ’90s animated series iteration with Matt Hagen, a working actor hoping to make it big, who takes a risk on a cosmetic product that essentially turns him into a shapeshifting monster. Similarities could be made between that take on Clayface and the recent body horror movie “The Substance.”

At the moment, it’s unclear if Clayface’s nemesis, Batman, will be featured in the movie, but the current belief is that this might be closer to “The Joker,” where the villain’s story is the heart of the story.

“Clayface” is slotted to hit theaters on September 11, 2026, and we’re expecting a lot more actors to be named in the coming weeks.
