DC Studios and James Gunn aren’t waiting to start promoting their next feature film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” as Gunn posted a first-look teaser poster for the movie on social media featuring lead actress Milly Alcock (“House of the Dragon”) as Kara Zor-El, the next Kryptonian to hit the big screen and cousin of Superman.
Gunn has already prepped audiences and fans alike that Kara won’t be a carbon copy of her cousin, Clark, calling her a “total mess” in comparison due to the pair’s different upbringings, and the teaser poster seems to address that as she is drinking what looks like a blue Slurpee, holding it with a blood-soaked hand and wearing a duster covering up most of her costume, although, her skirt is now confirmed.

We have to assume she likely is going to be much more confrontational and potentially a brawler, as she has had to survive on various alien planets after the destruction of their home planet, Krypton, and likely hasn’t had exactly a peaceful run at life. Some of that chaos was sort of teased with her dog Krypto playing a key part in Gunn’s “Superman” and is expected to return for “Supergirl.”
If you’re not aware, the new movie is based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely‘s comic of the same name, with director Craig Gillespie (“Cruella,” “I, Tonya”) at the helm. Other cast members include Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll in supporting roles, with Emily Beecham (“28 Weeks Later”) and David Krumholtz (“Oppenheimer”) playing the heroine’s parents.
Alcock takes up the Supergirl mantle after Sasha Calle previously played the modern live-action role in Andy Muschietti‘s “The Flash,” but with a recent reset of the DC franchise and phasing out of various Snyderverse characters/actors, it didn’t make much sense to bring her back. The new movie seems to add to that point of establishing a brand new DCU by having former “Aquaman” actor Jason Momoa playing the foul-mouthed alien biker bounty hunter Lobo (a serious threat who could be either friend or foe) in the solo adventure.
Could Kara and Clark eventually team up for a crossover? That is extremely possible with Gunn teasing that “Superman 2” won’t be a traditional sequel and may pivot to some event blockbuster instead, rather than just being another solo story.
